Android 12 to bring several interesting features, developer preview now available for download

GameKillerMods, Friday, February 19, 2021

Android 12 is finally available for download in the developer preview version, designed for first-time developers and testers to understand what new features will be introduced by the new operating system and basically to prepare their apps accordingly. This also means that this version has nowhere to be used in your daily driver, which is why you should stay away from this version until Google announces the best beta versions, if they are not stable.

Google issues developer preview months before the actual release to let developers know about the OS but does not show all of its cards. Most of the building materials are reserved for display at the annual I / O, which is usually held in May. But there will still be some visible changes, expected to be those that were later revealed back to the screens. And these changes make Android 12 better than Android 11, or at least closer to Apple’s platform that enjoys a better reputation as a mobile platform for integration.

Who can download?
Android 12 Developer Preview is available for download on Pixel 3 and higher models right now. Interested users and developers will need to install a new design by turning on their Pixel phones. According to Google, the beta system will go live in May this year, giving regular users the opportunity to experience Android 12 before it becomes widely available by the end of August.

What’s new?
The biggest advantage is Android 12 which seems to bring Android 11 and earlier versions to better compatibility of media files. Therefore, unlike Android 11, Android 12 will automatically enable HEVC video format to work with applications that do not have traditional support, thanks to a new layer of code. And this will be very useful for different Android phones from different OEMs. Currently, if the video is recorded in HEVC format, it may not be traditionally supported in third-party applications such as VLC.

In addition, there will be local audio support for Android 12, making Google’s next big OS an inch closer to iOS in support of reliable audio standards. Cell phones are no longer just phones, they are used in a variety of industries, including those where sound plays an important role. Local Sound will give third-party companies the opportunity to extend support and expand their Android-based portfolio. The new OS will also support the MPEG-H format with up to 24 audio channels from the current eight, allowing developers to pack thunder effects.

Another great download from Android 12 is the AV1 Image File Format, known as AVIF, which Google seems to be moving. And why not? Google wants AVIF to replace JPG as the default image format, a change that can make images look clearer and sharper with a system-enabled compression to ensure greater compliance. The AVIF image format is based on the AV1 video format proposed by technology companies over the years and used by Google and Netflix for its content. But Google does not want AVIF to be the default format for the camera app right now, so this could be the first step in looking at that in the future.

The cutting, copying, pasting function gets great fixes with Android 12, where the new “Rick content” API will allow you to cut, paste, or drag and drop any type of content into apps with explicit text options, among others from tags to images , in videos and other files

Google has upgraded OS security with Android 12. Dubbed Project Mainline, this program will allow Google to push critical security updates directly into Google Play infrastructure, rather than waiting for OEMs or carriers (in the case of locked phones in the US and abroad) to do so device security changes. The security and privacy measures on the OS have also been improved to make it easier to look and clean. And Google’s new version of Android will show clues to the status bar where the camera and / or microphone is detected by the app on the phone, just like how iOS 14 does.

Android 12 release
Google Map for Android 12 releases includes Android developer preview releases in February, followed by two more developer releases in March and April. After that, Google will release a beta system with Android 12 Beta 1 which could be released in May. there will be a triple beta version of Android 12, which will be released in June, July and July. And finally, by the end of August, we can see the release of Candidate and then the final stable release of Android 12.
