Due to legal reasons, Google forces YouTube Vanced to discontinue

The popular Vanced YouTube app is still being suspended, following legal threats from Google. Vanced creators have indicated that the project will close in the coming days, and download links will be removed. While the app will continue to work for anyone who already has it on Android, without future updates it may stop working soon. The owners of Vanced said they had to resign “for legal reasons.”

Google recently sent Vacc owners a letter of suspension and discontinuation, forcing developers to stop distributing and improving the app. “We’ve been asked to remove all references to ‘YouTube’, change the logo, and remove all links related to YouTube products,” the Vanced team director said in a Discord message to The Verge.

Vanced is a YouTube third-party YouTube app, mainly because it allows YouTube users to block all video ads on YouTube without a Premium subscription. Vanced includes a real black theme, and customization not provided in the official YouTube version of Android.

Vanced is the latest victim of Google’s action against third-party applications that access YouTube. Google-owned YouTube forced two popular Discord music boots to be offline last year, before launching a Discord-sponsored YouTube compilation a few weeks later. Rhythm and Groovy Discord popular music also avoids ads in the service, allowing Discord users to listen to music together.

“Vanced disconnected,” reads a telegram message from Vanced owners. “We know this is not something you want to hear, but it’s something we have to do.” We have reached out to Google to comment on the Vanced suspension and will let you know accordingly.
